God Please Let it Rain

What an unbelievable day!

Rob and I were invited to participate in the famous Braveheart march for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition where a group of 300-400 vendors and partners, led by TV star Ty Pennington, charged down the street to the house that would later be demolished.

We started the day at 8am at an offsite staging area and signed the necessary disclaimers. We then spent the next 90 minutes getting instructions and mingling with other volunteers. At about 9:30 we started loading the buses to transport the group to Oxford street.

Rob and I were on the last bus to leave the staging area and we were surprised to find a vacant street when we arrived. To get out of the rain all of the participants chose to go inside the Good Hope Baptist Church until all the buses were unloaded.

We went inside and found a standing room only crowd singing a song asking God to let it rain. Watch the video below.

At first it seemed counterproductive to what we were trying to do, but the Pastor mentioned that he felt blessed by the rain. If it hadn’t been raining the church wouldn’t have been filled. The volunteers would have simply stood outside and waited for the buses to bring everyone and we would have gone on with our march.

So, in his eyes, he was thrilled for the rain. To him it was a blessing.

How often do we complain that life doesn’t turn out the way we’d like? How many times have you felt depressed or overwhelmed because of stress or worry? Our economy is terrible, and it may be a long while before it gets better.

Instead of moping or stressing out, maybe we can take a step back and try to look at our situation through someone elses eyes. They may see things differently than we do and it may be just the change we need to create something great.
